Dr. Thuy Ho-Ellsworth is double board-certified in foot and ankle surgery with over 10 years of practice in the Austin, Texas area.

Born in Vietnam, she and her family fled by boat, and lived in refugee camps from Thailand to Indonesia, before immigrating to the United States in 1980. Despite facing economic hardship and struggles to learn a new language, she and her family are living proof of the American immigrant success story. Graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, with a degree in Applied Learning and Development, she started her first career teaching ESL at the elementary school level with the Austin Independent School District, before she returned to pursue her medical degree from the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, IL where she graduated as a distinguished member of the Durlacher Honor Society.

She went on complete a three-year foot and ankle surgical residency at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, Indiana, where she trained with both podiatrists and orthopedic surgeons. Her comprehensive training focused on diabetic wound care, foot and ankle trauma, sports medicine, and reconstructive forefoot and rearfoot surgeries, completing AO North America foot and ankle trauma courses during this time.

Spurred by her love of sports medicine and inspired by her brother’s successful surgical correction of a clubfoot deformity early in life, she is passionate about the treatment and care of podiatric issues. She is continually refreshing her skills and approaches with the latest in medical technology and sharing her knowledge via health clinics throughout the community.

She has parlayed her early career as a school educator into educating patients about their foot and ankle pathologies. She takes an all-encompassing approach that ranges from conservative to surgical treatment with a strong emphasis on patient education as the foundation.

In her spare time, she enjoys daily morning HIIT workouts, spending time with her family and two dogs, traveling, gardening and reading. She is passionate about cooking and baking and especially loves to share her creations with family and friends.

Driven by her own love for nutrition, fitness, and an active lifestyle, Dr. Ho-Ellsworth focuses on best practices to help patients return to their full activities.

Dr. Ho-Ellsworth sees patients of all ages and is fluent in English and Vietnamese. Read less
