Dr. Courtney McClurkin was born in Saudi Arabia, and at age 5 her family moved to the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. In 2008 Dr. McClurkin earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at DeSales University, Allentown, PA. She went on to receive her Master of Science in Biology from UNC Wilmington in 2014. While living in coastal Carolina, she became an avid participant in the tennis, running, and beach volleyball communities. It was here that she realized she wanted to combine her love of athletics with her career. She decided to pursue podiatry so that she could help people stay active and on their feet. Dr. McClurkin returned to Philadelphia to complete her doctorate in podiatric medicine at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in 2017.

Dr. McClurkin completed her residency training at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City, NJ. During residency, a major part of her focus was trauma of the foot and ankle, as well as wound care. Dr. McClurkin became highly proficient in the areas of infection management and Charcot reconstruction. Accomplishments to note were completing the Bako Diagnostics Dermatopathology Fellowship in Alpharetta, Georgia and the ACFAS Arthroscopy of the Foot and Ankle course. Throughout Dr. McClurkin’s residency she assisted in multiple research projects that were presented as posters at the annual ACFAS meetings.

Wound care and diabetic footcare is a significant area of interest for Dr. McClurkin. It provides her with the opportunity to routinely interact with and get to know her patients. It is especially rewarding to see patients accomplish healing a wound that had been a long-term struggle. For those patients dealing with the condition of Charcot, Dr. McClurkin’s experience with reconstructions provides her with an edge on giving a patient a functional foot again.

Dr. McClurkin is an active member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the American Podiatric Medical Association, and the Texas Podiatric Medical Association.

Dr. McClurkin’s core values are to treat all patients compassionately and without judgment, knowing this is a critical component to the healing process. As a podiatrist, she feels it is paramount to speak in-depth with each patient about their individual goals, then to suggest treatment in a way that truly improves that patient’s quality of life.

Athletics is still a big part of Dr. McClurkin’s world. She is a runner in half-marathons and is looking forward to getting into the Dallas tennis community. Dr. McClurkin also relishes reading, visits to the zoos and aquariums, and discovering new Mexican restaurants. Read less
