Dr. Akerman completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in biology. She then proceeded with a research opportunity at Stanford University before attending Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine where she received her D.P.M. She completed a three year residency program in her hometown Houston at Kingwood Medical Center. Dr. Akerman is Board Eligible in Foot and Ankle Surgery and is an Associate of The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Her professional interests include common foot problems such as bunions, hammertoes, heel pain, ingrown toenails, and trauma. She is also interested in treating sports injuries.

Dr. Akerman is on staff at Memorial Hermann Memorial City, Methodist West, West Houston Medical Center, Kingwood Medical Center, First Street Surgery Center, and West Houston Surgicare.
